TC* 1.1 - The mole (moley, moley, moley)
TC* 1.2 - Stoichiometry
TC* 1.3 - Conservation of Mass (Balancing Equations)
TC* 1.4 - Types of Chemical Reactions

This unit builds upon students' understanding of atomic structure, the periodic table, and chemical bonding to explore chemical reactions and quantitative relationships. Students will learn to balance chemical equations, perform stoichiometric calculations, and classify reaction types. The emphasis will be on problem-solving, critical thinking, and applying these concepts to real-world scenarios.

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Define and explain the mole concept.
  • Convert between grams, moles, and particles using molar mass and Avogadro's number.
  • Write and balance chemical equations using the law of conservation of mass.
  • Classify chemical reactions into different types (synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, and combustion).
  • Predict products of simple chemical reactions.
  • Perform stoichiometric calculations to determine the amount of reactants and products in a chemical reaction.
  • Calculate percent yield and identify limiting reactants.
  • Apply the concepts of stoichiometry to real-world problems.
