Lesson 3: Mendeleev's Periodic Table
Duration of Days: 2
Lesson Objective
Students will be able to used the data available to Mendeleev to recreate a periodic table based solely on the properties and characteristic of the elements.
How do the properties of the elements change as you go across a period on the periodic table? How do they stay the same?
How do properties of the elements change as you do down a group on the periodic table? How do they stay the same?
HS-PS1-1: Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.
By recreating a version of Mendeleev's periodic table students will be able to have a better understanding of how the properties of matter play a role in the location of where they are placed on the periodic table.
