Lesson 5: Lesson 5: Nuclear Power
Duration of Days: 2
Lesson Objective
Students will understand the basic structure and function of the major components of a nuclear powerplant and weight the pros and cons of nuclear power.
How do nuclear power plants work?
Should we continue to use nuclear power as a source of energy?
PS1.C Nuclear Processes
Nuclear processes, including fusion, fission, and radioactive decays of unstable nuclei, involve release or absorption of energy. The total number of neutrons plus protons does not change in any nuclear process.
Students will use their skills of interpreting models and obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information to make an argument if nuclear power plants should be used as a source of energy.
