(DOK 4 - Extended Thinking) Students synthesize and cross-examine multi-dimensional ecosystem, biochemical, and socio-political data tracks to evaluate the real-world management of biological organisms. Daily sessions move from final technical defense prep to active peer-to-peer data collection during the Mystical & Religious Plants Poster Gallery Walk. The unit culminates in a DOK 4 dual-assessment block. Students use their peer evaluations to complete a comprehensive cross-cultural matrix tracking Biology, Culture, and Regulation. They then formulate an extended, evidence-based argument defending or refuting global access regulations. The block and course conclude with students mapping these high-level connections onto the high-stakes Botany II Final Concept Map alongside their final exam review.

Culmination & Defense Phase: This sequence represents the public presentation and cross-examination phase of the inquiry project. Students present their completed Indigenous Plants Poster maps. They act as expert ethnobotanists, standing by their "Hub-and-Spoke" diagrams to explain how their plant's specific environmental home dictates its molecular defense mechanisms, which directly drive human cultural traditions and modern legal boundaries. Peers use the Poster Gallery Walk matrix to gather comparative data on the remaining three species, leaving everyone with a complete global socio-chemical data set.

Students often believe that federal regulations are based purely on objective, universal chemical profiles, failing to recognize how cultural biases, historical colonial displacement, and modern corporate patent disputes heavily influence the legal status of biological organisms across different borders.
