Lesson 6: Angular Momentum
Duration of Days: 3
Lesson Objective
Students will learn to describe motion in angular units as well as understand the conversion from linear to angular motion. The application of angular motion to momentum will be investigated.
How do we measure motion in a circle?
What is a radian?
Can we convert degrees to radians?
What is torque?
What is inertia or moments of inertia?
Radian
Angular velocity
Moment of inertia
Torque
GS1: Questioning
Students can develop and use relevant scientific questions to investigate phenomena, test a hypothesis, conduct an experiment or solve a problem.
GS4: Data Analysis and Interpretation
Students can analyze and interpret scientific data and solve problems using a range of tools, technology and mathematical techniques
This lesson takes the concept of momentum and converts its application to angular (rotational) motion. We will encounter rotational motion later in the year and will apply many of these concepts.
DOK: 4
TBD
Students will be assessed at a scaffolded level. Each concept of the lesson will be individual assessed and slowly combined for a full understanding of the final equations.
