Lesson 2: Momentum and Impulse-Momentum Theorem
Duration of Days: 3
Lesson Objective
Students will be able to define momentum and calculate it for objects described in scenarios. Students will understand how an impulse can affect an objects momentum and begin to understand how the momentum will change.
What do we mean by momentum in the real world?
How do we define momentum in physics?
How do we think impulse (a force applied over time) will affect momentum?
Momentum
GS4: Data Analysis and Interpretation
Students can analyze and interpret scientific data and solve problems using a range of tools, technology and mathematical techniques.
This lesson introduces the physics definition of momentum and how impulse causes.a change in momentum. When combined with collisions, this will result in calculations to changes in momentum and energy after collisions.
DOK: 3
TBD
Students will complete assignments calculating momentum of objects and changes in momentum due to impulses.
