Duration of Days: 3
Lesson Objective
1. Solve simple exponential and logarithmic equations.
2. Solve more complicated exponential equations.
3. Solve more complicated logarithmic equations.
4. Use exponential and logarithmic equations to model and solve real-life problems.
How do you solve exponential and logarithmic equations?
One to one properties
Inverse properties
HSA-BF.B.5: Understand the inverse relationship between exponents and logarithms and use this relationship to solve problems involving logarithms and exponents.
Use Khan Academy Resources
Students will use the properties of exponents and logs from the previous section in order to solve exponential and log equations.
Exponential and logarithmic equations can be used to model and solve real-life problems. For example, they can be used to model the average heights of men and women.
Students my produce incorrect answers if they are not using the calculator correctly. Remind them not to round until they arrive at their answer.
For struggling learners, provide them with a step by step of what must be done to progress the equation. Let the use the written directions to complete the examples. As they progress, have them cover up the step by step directions.
