Lesson 3: 1.3 Displaying Quantitative Data: Dotplots
Duration of Days: 2
Lesson Objective
Make and interpret dotplots of quantitative data.
Describe the shape of a distribution
Describe or compare distributions of quantitative data with dotplots
What is the overall shape of the distribution (symmetric, skewed left, skewed right, uniform)?
How can we use dot plots to visually compare the distributions?

HSS.ID.A.1
Represent data with plots on the real number line (dot plots, histograms, and box plots).
The creation and interpretation of dotplots will be addressed. We will also compare the distributions of two or more data sets using dot plots.
Which cars guzzle gas? (Example pg 23-24)
Student understanding of left and right skewed.
For advanced students: Provide more complex data sets and challenge them to analyze the data in greater depth.
For struggling students: Provide additional support and simplified data sets.
