Lesson 7: 1-7 Solving Systems of Inequalities by Graphing
Duration of Days: 3
Lesson Objective
Solve systems of inequalities by graphing
Determine the coordinates of the vertices of a region formed by the graph of a system of inequalities
Why are inequalities used for for many real world situations?
Why is graphing a good way to show the solutions to a system of inequalities?
What symbol should be used to show that x can be o more than a number n? to show that it must be at least n?
If the solutions to a system of inequalities in a real world problem is an enclosed region of a graph, does it mean there must be an infinite number of solutions?
system of inequalities
A.REI.12 Graph the solutions to a linear inequality in two variables as a half plan and graph the solution set to a system of linear inequalities in two variables as the intersections of the corresponding half planes
A.CED.3 Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of inequalities, and interpret solutions as viable or nonviable options in a modeling context

The inequalities in the system are graphed on the same coordinate plane, and the ordered pairs that satisfy all of the inequalities in the system are in the region that is common to the inequalities. If the regions do not intersect, the solution is the empty set, and no solutions exists
Many weather conditions need to be met before a rocket can launch. The temperature must be greater than 35 and less than 100, and the wind speed cannot exceed 30 knots. A system of inequalities can be used to show these three conditions.
