An equation for a best-fit line can be written for any set of data, but it is only useful if the data exhibits a linear trend. A graphing calcualtor can be used to write an equation for the best-fit line and find correlation coefficient. The closet the correlation coefficient is to 1 or -1, the more closely the equation models the data.
The table shows the total attendance, in millions of people, at the Minnesota State Fair from 2005 to 2009. You can use a graphing calculator to find the equation of a best-fit line and use it to make predicitions about future attendance at the fair.
If students are having trouble remebering certain keystokes on their graphing calculators, then have students make "recipe" cards for each calculator activity they study.
