Repetition: Students will know that a pattern is created when a shape, color, or line happens over and over again in the same order.

Sequencing: Students will understand that patterns follow a "rule" (e.g., "Red then Blue").

Visual Rhythm: Students will know that patterns can be found in the world around them (on clothes, in nature, or on tiled floors).

Stamping Sequences: Students will use adaptive stamps, sponges, or "found objects" to create a linear repeat on a long strip of paper.

Tactile Pattern Building: Students will arrange physical 3D objects (like colored blocks, large beads, or textured tiles) into an "AB" or "AAB" sequence.

Pattern Tracing: Students will use their fingers or a stylus to follow pre-existing patterns, reinforcing the "rhythm" of the repetition.

  • Pattern Extension: Given a pattern that has already started (e.g., Circle, Square, Circle...), the student will successfully choose the next correct piece from a choice of two to continue the sequence.

  • Error Identification: When shown a "broken" pattern (e.g., Red, Red, Blue, Yellow, Red), the student will indicate (via pointing, gaze, or "No" switch) where the pattern is wrong.

  • Creation: The student will independently produce a work of art that contains at least three successful repetitions of a color or shape sequence.
