Unit 11: Fiber Arts
Duration of Days: 10
That weaving is a way to "lock" materials together.
The difference between the "Warp" (the strings that stay still) and the "Weft" (the strings that move).
That wool fibers have tiny "hooks" that lock together when poked with a special needle.
That the more you poke the wool, the smaller and harder it becomes.
Guide a piece of fiber across the loom using an "Over/Under" motion.
Pull the fiber through to complete a row.
Layer loose wool roving onto a foam pad.
Use a repetitive "up and down" motion with a felting tool to fuse the fibers into a shape.
Student will successfully complete three rows of weaving where the material stays secured within the warp strings.
The student will produce a "Felted Patch" or 3D shape that stays together when pulled gently, showing successful fiber entanglement.
