Lesson Objective

Students will translate their visual intuition into Verbal Literacy through a formal Artist Statement and reflection.

Now that it's done, what is it telling you? How did your feelings change from Day 1 to Day 5?

Metaphor: A thing symbolic of something else. Artist Statement: A written text by an artist about their work.

VA:Cn10.1.HS: Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art.

Evidence-Based Claims: Backing up their "meaning" with specific "evidence" from their collage.

Description: Completion and writing. Purpose: Cognitive closure and self-discovery. DOK Level 4: Extended Thinking.

Professional Portfolio: How artists communicate their value to the world through writing.

"I didn't mean anything by it." Correction: The subconscious always means something. Your job is to be the detective and find it.

Provide "Sentence Starters" for the reflection (e.g., "On Day 3, I felt frustrated because... but now I see...").

Summative: Final rubric evaluating Depth of Layering, Evidence of Revision, and Depth of Reflection.

Lined paper/Journals, pens, finished artwork.
