Lesson Objective

Students will apply Fine Detail and "micro-adjustments" to polish the narrative of their piece.

Where does your eye go first? How can a tiny detail change the "volume" of the whole piece?

Focal Point: The area in a work of art that draws the viewer's eye first. Nuance: A subtle difference in or shade of meaning.

VA:Re7.2.HS: Evaluate the effectiveness of an image to influence ideas or feelings.

Context Clues: Identifying how small, nuanced words (or images) change the "flavor" of a sentence.

Description: Detailing phase. Purpose: Refining the "voice" of the intuition. DOK Level 3: Strategic Thinking.

Medical Imaging: How specialists look for tiny "nuances" in scans to understand the whole body.

"I'm just adding stuff to be busy." Correction: Each addition must be a "response" to what is already there. Listen to the art.

Provide "detail kits" (beads, thread, or fine-liners) to add a new medium to the collage.

Self-check: Does every corner of the page have a "moment" of interest?

Fine-point blades, tweezers (for small pieces), metallic markers.
