Lesson Objective

Students will gut hard cover books, measure fabric for the inside of the cover, glue the fabric to the inner cover, and begin painting the covers with a background color with the intention of creating a strong and personalized cover for their art journals.

How can we turn a hardcover book into our own brand new art journal?
What tools can/should we use to remove the pages efficiently?
How can we make the inner cover and spine physically stronger?
How can we make the fabric fit perfectly inside the book cover?
How can we apply glue to a surface smoothly?

That creating an art journal is not possible or that it might be too difficult.

Examples of differentiation include:
- Have some books pre-gutted and some fabric pre-measured
- Slideshows available with step-by-step visual instructions
