Lesson Objective

Students will learn the workflow of moving a physical artwork into a digital format for reproduction.

Why do we need to "mirror" or "flip" certain designs (like text) before printing for a transfer? How does lighting affect the quality of a digital scan?

Contrast: The state of being strikingly different from something else in juxtaposition. Mirror Image: An image which is like a reflection in a mirror.

VA:Pr4.1.HS: Analyze and select various methods/formats for displaying and documenting artwork.

Media Literacy: Understanding how information (or art) is transformed when it moves from one medium (paper) to another (digital).

Description: Photographing and emailing. Purpose: Learning the digital-to-physical art pipeline. DOK Level 2: Procedural knowledge.

Modern Tattooing: Many artists now use iPads (Procreate) to design; this bridges the gap between traditional drawing and modern tech.

"A blurry photo is fine." Correction: The transfer depends on the ink saturation. The photo must be crisp and the "blacks" must be deep.

Assist students with phone-to-email logistics; provide a "Photo Station" with a ring light or steady surface.

Completion: Verification of the emailed file and checking that any text in the design is mirrored if necessary.

Smartphones/Tablets/Chromebooks, printer/ink.
