Lesson Objective

Students will integrate their Day 1 "Anchor Lyric" onto their Day 2 background, focusing on Typography as a design element.

Where should the words live so they don't get "lost" in the background? How does the "font" you draw change the "voice" of the lyric?

Typography: The style and appearance of printed matter. Legibility: The quality of being clear enough to read. Focal Point: The part of the work that catches the eye.

VA:Cr3.1.HS: Refine works of art in response to personal artistic vision and the marriage of text/image.

Textual Evidence: The lyric acts as the "quote" that supports the visual "argument" made in the background.

Description: Adding text to the background. Purpose: Combining linguistic and visual communication. DOK Level 4: Extended Thinking (synthesizing sound, sight, and word).

Graphic Design: Exploring how album covers use font and color to sell the "vibe" of the music inside.

"I should just write it in the middle." Correction: Consider placing the text where the "music" in the background feels the quietest or loudest.

Provide stencils or carbon paper for students who are intimidated by hand-lettering.

Summative Rubric: Evaluating the Visual Harmony between the background and the text, and the Intentionality of the placement.

Paint pens, permanent markers, stencils, completed Day 2 paintings.
