Students will know that there is two zones on the mode dial.
The Creative Zone: The specific functions of the Av (Aperture Priority), Tv (Shutter Priority), and M (Manual) modes for controlling exposure.

The Basic Zone: When to use automated scene modes like Portrait, Landscape, and Sports icons

Students will be exposed to various situations where they will gain the skills to become proficient in Mode Selection: Physically rotate the dial to the appropriate setting based on varying lighting and movement scenarios.

The "Creative Choice" Portfolio
Students submit a mini-portfolio (3-5 images) where each photo must be taken using a different "Creative Zone" mode (P, Tv, Av, or M).
The Requirement for proof of learning: For each image, the student must include a "technical caption" listing the mode used and a "creative justification" for why that mode was selected.
Example: "I used TV (Shutter Priorirty) at 1/1000s to freeze the motion of the basketball mid-air."
Studnets will do the same for the basic zone -changing one thing each time for eaxample by using the timer or changing the coloring to vivid.
