Lesson Objective

Students will explore the standard setting and default settings found in the basic zone on the mode dial. For example in the landscape mode. Students will recognize and be able to apply the knowledge that these settings are ambience based settings.

What is the ''mood'' of a photography refering to?
What ways can we change it?
Why would an artist want to change the mood?
In what settings would you pick different moods? Can you give examples?

This is a DOK level 2 skill. Selecting settings to be applied to a work of art requires basic understanding of the camera settings and how to manipulate them.

Students will be shown various popular photographs from various times. reinforce the difference in photographs and how settings changed delighting, mood and the overall appearance of such photographs.

That the camera will always be right and that the camera does better at selecting settings than you would. However the camera defaults to standard settings.
That changing the settings will not effect the "mood" of the photography.

Students will be given a modified assignment and /or aided in the help of setting their camera.

Students will complete at least one skill development assignment, as well as, one project. Portfolio will be submitted for assessment.

Where students able to pick a setting that enhanced the mood of the photography. Where students able to display a mastering of the technical skills needed to change the settings?

Each student will be provided with a dslr camera or a higher grade camera.
