Lesson Objective
Students Will be introduced to three composition photography concepts.
They are:
- What are the rules of composition in photography?
- How does these rules effect how I capture a photograph.
-how do these rules effect the overall design and feel of the photograph?
-how do I take a photo of each rule?

Students will understand the difference in approach and outcome between a snap shot and fine art photography.
Students will understand and that fine art photography relies heavily on the artist’s understanding and implementation of compositional effects.
When students study composition and become more adapt at reading artwork; they are more likely to grasp cultural differences within a piece of artwork as well as cultural relevance.
Students may not realize that there is a difference between a snapshot and a photograph that shows a true composition principle. Students may not all to realize that the principles of composition and the elements of art apply to photography as well.
Ways to differentiate instruction for
- Vary the complexity for different learners:
-have this student complete less examples of each if takes them longer to understand
- Advanced learners can explore the use of different camera settings
Students will create a digital composition portfolio that demonstrates their understanding and knowledge of the composition principles. Students will use a dslr camera to take photos to create this portfolio.
