Students engage in a big band-style ensemble with a curriculum that focuses on improvisation, jazz performance and instrumental technique. Students will study both classic and modern jazz styles through this course, including swing, funk, Latin, blues, R&B and fusion. These groups are auditioned, and a high level of proficiency on a band instrument is required to participate in this class. Instruments include saxophone, trombone, trumpet, drum set, bass, guitar, and piano. Participation requires participation in numerous evening and weekend performances.
