-How to recognize and critique horror film tropes
-Elements of the horror genre and the genre's development over the years
-Characters, plot, and themes from 2-3 films in the horror genre (i.e. Halloween, Get Out, Scream, Psycho, Jaws, etc.)
-How to write well-developed argumentative analysis paragraphs
-Research films in the horror genre
-Actively view and take notes on horror films from a variety of years and representing diverse perspectives
-Analyze characterization, plot, and themes of the chosen horror films
-Recognize film techniques and tropes used in horror films, and analyze their effectiveness on the audience
-Write well-developed argumentative analyses in paragraphs
-Compare and contrast films within and across genres
-Examine race relations and statements on racism through the lens of horror films
-Read and annotate an article(s) on the specific films studied and/or the horror genre in general
Notes identifying horror film tropes and techniques, and the effect of those tropes on the audience
Annotations of articles about specific films and/or coming of age genre
Contributions to class and group discussions about the characters, plot, and themes of the chosen horror films
Well-developed argumentative analysis of the horror genre over the years, and recent film makers' statements about racism and race relations
Project involving research and analysis of the best/worst horror tropes
