Students will know how to:
-Begin exploring social justice and struggle in the city.
-Examine labor dynamics and social mobility.
-Study the impact of immigration on the city in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
-Analyze the conflict between American ideals of liberty and the immigrant experience.
-Explore poems informed by languages other than English.
-Continue developing skills in close reading, evidence-gathering, and making claims.

Students will engage in material presented by Arizona State University and the Equity Lab. Students will be required to:
-Watch video lectures/discussions from Professor New and others regarding -Read assigned material including informational texts, and poetry reading packets (approx. 60 minutes).
-Write a discussion post to the prompt provided on Canvas and reply to two others
-Take a quiz on unit material
-Complete the mid-semester survey
-Reigster for ASU credit

Student will demonstrate their learning by:

  • Taking the unit quiz (7-8 Questions- 2 hour time limit once opened)
  • Writing their formative discussion post and replies (assessed by TA using the formative discussion post rubric on the course Canvas page)
