-Explore Whitman’s poetry as a key example of urban American poetry.
-Begin practicing critical reading and using evidence.
-Develop habits of reading, re-reading, discussing, and annotating poems outside the course.
-Deepen understanding of course structure and requirements

Students will engage in material presented by Arizona State University and the Equity Lab. Students will be required to:
-Watch video lectures/discussions from Professor New and others regarding Whitman, "Song of Myself," The Four Pillars, and utilizing evidence from poetry in written responses.
-Read assigned material including informational texts, and poetry reading packets (approx. 60 minutes).
-Write an introductory discussion post
-Write a formative discussion post to the prompt provided on Canvas and reply to two others
-Take a quiz on unit material

Student will demonstrate their learning by:

  • Taking the unit quiz (7-8 Questions- 2 hour time limit once opened)
  • Writing their formative discussion post and replies (assessed by TA using the summative discussion post rubric on the course Canvas page)
